Originally "Monadnock No. 3" Highest village in New England, according to United States survey; 1493 feet above sea-level. The greater part of Monadnock Mt lies within the town, which received its charter from King George the Third, in 1771. The Town Hall, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, has remained one of the most prominent institutional buildings in Dublin, and an important visual element of the town centre. It was originally designed by Rotch & Tilden and constructed by GB Gilchrist in the Shingle Style. However, in 1916 the building was redesigned by John Lawrence Mauran in a restrained version of the popular Colonial Revival idiom to reflect changing architectural tastes.
