About OnlineVitals

An independent directory of vital-records offices and passport acceptance facilities, operated by VRO LLC.

OnlineVitals lists 7,014 vital-records and health-department offices across 51 states and the District of Columbia, plus 7,436 U.S. passport acceptance facilities and agencies. The site answers where an office is and what a visit looks like: address, hours, phone, fees, and processing times. It is not a government agency, and it does not issue certificates, take applications, or process payments.

Who runs it

OnlineVitals is a service of VRO LLC. Questions about a listing go to support@onlinevitals.com or the contact page. When a page offers an “Apply” link, that link leaves this directory and opens Vital Records Online, which handles the certificate request. OnlineVitals does not see or store that application.

Where office listings come from

Each office page is assembled from the fields we actually store for that listing:

  • Name, address, phone, and the office’s own fee come from the directory record. The record keeps the original directory post id so a listing can be traced back to the source row.
  • Hours come from the listing itself, from Google Places, or from the county’s website. The hours block is badged “via Google” or “via county website” when the hours were filled from one of those sources. Hours that were part of the original listing have no badge.
  • Google rating on a listing is the rating and review count cached from the Google Places API for that place. A review marked “Google” was imported from that same source. Reviews submitted on this site stay hidden until they are moderated.
  • Official site is shown only when the listing has an http(s) reference link to the agency.
  • Last verified is the date the listing row was last updated in this directory, including data refreshes. It is not a claim that a person re-checked every field by hand on that day.
  • Photos, where a page has one, are the office photos carried over with the directory.
  • Listings flagged as duplicates point at a canonical office URL and are left out of browse lists and the sitemap.

Fees and processing times

Fee and processing figures are not invented per office. Two sources are combined, and the page says which one you are looking at:

  • If the office has published its own fee, that amount is shown.
  • If it has not, the page shows the statewide fee for that certificate and badges it with the state name and “state fee.” Statewide fees are stored in cents on the state certificate record (birth, death, marriage, and divorce) and displayed as dollars.
  • If the listing never confirmed which records the office issues, the table falls back to the certificates the state issues and is badged with the state name and “statewide.”
  • Processing times are state-level only. No office in the directory publishes its own processing time, so the figure is badged with the state name and “estimate,” and the page says it varies with demand. The state record stores a minimum, a maximum, and a period (days or weeks).
  • Who can request a record, which ID is accepted, and form names are compiled from the state’s vital records agency and shown on the state hub and on the birth, death, and marriage pages for that state.

County lists on a state hub are ordered with U.S. Census population estimates where we have them, then by how many offices the county has.

Passport acceptance facilities

Passport pages list facilities and regional agencies from U.S. Department of State data: name, street, city, phone, and map coordinates. Those pages are a location directory. They do not take a passport application. A link to Vital Records Online is there for people who want help preparing the form before an in-person visit.

Corrections

Agency hours, fees, and addresses change. If a listing is wrong, email support@onlinevitals.com with the page URL and the correction. See also the privacy policy and terms of use.
