On a Thursday, around 10:30 , it only took me about 15 minutes to check in, speak with a customer service representative and get a certified copy of a marriage certificate. It took me longer to find a parking space. Nice, clean building at 415 Silver SW near 4th and Silver, and helpful staff and Security. Other State and Federal agencies should be so efficient.

i believe the county clerk’s office is involved with election interference. i’ve called 3 times now and each time it’s an elderly lady who is not answering my questions, it seems like she is reading from a script with general poll information. she always ends with “okay well if you don’t have anymore questions bye bye!” in the middle of me saying “hello? can you hear me? you’re not answering my question”

Trying to file divorce papers shouldn’t feel like navigating a black hole of misinformation, but that’s exactly what my experience with the Bernalillo County Clerk’s office has been. First, I called ahead to confirm exactly what I needed to bring when submitting my uncontested divorce paperwork. The woman I spoke to sounded rushed—even though they still had 30 minutes before closing—and gave me vague, unhelpful answers. When I asked if anything else was needed, she said, “Depends on what kind of divorce.” I told her it was uncontested (as most are in New Mexico), and she assured me I just needed to bring in the papers. Fast forward to the next day: my husband goes in and is turned away. Why? Because the papers need to be notarized—and although they could notarize them there, I had to be present. A small but critical detail she conveniently forgot to mention. Still trying to get things done, I called again—this time speaking to a man who was somehow even less helpful than the woman before. Despite calling an hour and a half before closing, he told me they were “closing up” and dismissed me. Google and their own phone line say they close at 5:00 p.m., so why the early checkout? I asked again what we needed to bring to get the papers notarized and turned in—he says, “We don’t do that here.” Excuse me? That directly contradicts what the last person said and where the incoming recorded voice message directed me. I asked if maybe someone else in the office handled it. I got a solid two minutes of silence while he eavesdropped on another conversation in the background, only to come back with the same useless answer and offer me the number for Second Judicial District Court. Thanks, I guess? Now it’s 4:30 p.m., I call and get the voicemail, and I’m betting tomorrow I’ll be sent on yet another wild goose chase. Why is it that anything with Bernalillo in its name ends up being not just mediocre—but insultingly disorganized, undertrained, and apathetic? If you’re trying to handle something important—like, say, a legal proceeding—you deserve better than this sloppy circus of confusion.

I navigated downtown to find the office. Thats a challenge! It has easy parking. Not a far walk. New, clean building. Offices well signed. What impressed me the most from the security to the clerk who served us, everyone was cheerful courteous and helpful . Even personnel walking through the building asked if we needed help. They're doing it right!

I would like to leave way more than 5 stars to Brenda at the Bernalillo County Clerk's Office. I recently submitted documents to Bernalillo Co regarding a business license inquiry. Brenda called me and it turned out that I didn't need to send in what I sent and she very nicely explained everything and resolved everything. It is SO REFRESHING to work with intelligent, caring employees at government offices who care about their work and the community they serve. Thank you so much!
