My wife and I applied for a marriage license recently from this town hall. We had a change of plans and got married in Pomfret, CT. When we found that they do not usually transcribe from town to town, I called and was met with nothing but rudeness and condescending tones. I will not go to this town hall again. I was nothing but polite to even the use of “Ma’am” after every sentence. Please try and be polite to your town citizens.

I just spoke to Betsy on the phone, who was the most rude and condescending person I’ve ever spoken to. I called to ask a simple question, confirming that the name on our marriage license application needed to match our names given at birth as opposed to our current legal names. (This would have caused some issues and it is a long drive for us so I wanted to confirm). However, Betsy did not even allow me to ask the question because as soon as I mentioned it was about a marriage license she immediately interrupted me with a condescending tone about how all of the information is on the website. She then went over all of the basic information on obtaining a marriage license without being asked (all of this information I already knew because I was on the website which I had already mentioned). When she was finished rambling, she asked in a sarcastic tone if that answered my question, which it did not. When I finally did ask my question, she insisted that I was on the wrong website multiple times. She said if it didn’t have her name on it it’s not the right website. By the way, I checked and it is in fact her name and photo on the website. I was not on the wrong website. I told her in the paperwork instructions said specifically that your name needs to match your name at birth, and she just brushed me off saying I must be on the wrong website because it’s not true. If that is the case, they seriously need to update the instructions on the form because that’s what it says. You can see it in the attached photo. I know this isn’t a business so it’s not like I was expecting five star service, but the additive from this person ridiculous and she should be barred from ever interacting with the public.

Applied for an electrical permit b/c the electrician I hired didn't get one. I called 2-3 times talking to Sheamus about it and he was very helpful and polite. I filled it out at the Town Hall Annex, the woman there was very helpful and friendly. The whole process took less than 10 min.

The Town clerk is quite polite, she was calm, cool, and collected. However, one of the woman HAD to be correct and refused to listen to reason or logic. No one needs a lawyer to file a lien, any company can. And if the state is providing a form, why isn't that all that is needed? Not a single other town gave me any trouble. Just this one town. The rudeness and condescending attitude is not appreciated and does not helpful.

Went to the Groton town hall after reading the review I was afraid to but let me tell you don’t listen to them it was a very happy experience the ladies in the town clerk office were absolutely amazing they were wonderful and what a pleasant experience thank very much I would highly recommend them
