I'm not from this county, but a few years ago I went here to look up records for my great grandfather, Matthius Matson who immigrated to East Tawas from Finland. My grandfather Matthew Nestor Mattson was born here. The people here were very helpful in letting me look through the records from the late 1800's to find my roots. I ran across a large number of people born in then named Matthew Mattson and could not locate my grandfather. The people in the clerk's office were so helpful and empathetic that I cannot speak more highly of them. I am going to be in town again next week, and now with the aid of genealogy websites I may find details on my ancestors. Thanks again county folks.

The clerks office ladies are awesome. I called 2 minutes before closing, and Barbra helped me for 35 minutes. They have answered questions several times for me as I have been filing family law orders. This office goes far beyond the basic call of duty. And, they are very specific and knowledgeable, since I live out of state and I'm not there locally to file like most people can
