Make sure they have your address right when you move to town. Else you get a tax bill from collections 8 years later

The main tax collector herself is a pleasant person to deal with, but the Salem Tax Office as a whole feels largely unprofessional with poor communication. I don't appreciate that they lump personal financial documents for an entire household into the same envelope to save on postage. I sent multiple notifications for my change of address when I moved and they are still sending my documents to the old address. Plus, the window for when tax payments are due compared to when the mailings arrive is way too small, resulting in late fees more often than not. Thankfully, my new town has a much smoother operation.

I've always had a great experience with whoever has helped me. Very kind, helpful, generous individuals who work here. I've gotten alot of help and support over the years. Recently have made some changes in people who work there and I don't really know how they are but the people who have been there long-term are great in my book. Always a pleasure

If I could leave a zero I would. Very unprofessional. I was late on my taxes in 2023. I called office in September asking if I pay them or collection agency. I was told to just pay them I submitted a payment on 9/8/2025 for amount due. They took that payment I made online and applied to my January 2026 bill. So I call and kept explaining I made a payment to the lady and there was a mistake. She wouldnt listen and told me shes hanging up on me. She was very rude said I havent paid since Oct 2024 which was not true a payment was made 9/8 of 2025 and I just received a check because I over paid and was reimbursed for overpayment. So now I have to deal with a tax collection agency because of their mistake. Also they kept making mistakes on my last name which I never told them I shared the same last name as person I owned my camper with. Im so glad I no longer camp in Salem. They send you threatening letters if you are a day late. Im a tax payer in Manchester for 35 years never have to deal with this kind of incompetence.
