Note: Actually Room 160, back-right side of City hall (if coming through main entrance). For Birth Certificates - Beware: - Birth Certificates for Under 3 is in Department of Public Health, across the street. with virtually no line. - Birth Certificate line is shared with Marriage license line (for check-in, at least). The line can be very long. Thankfully, it diverges after that into its own path that is less crowded.

We debated whether to request a birth certificate by mail or in person. Very glad we did so in person -- much easier. Went on a Monday around 12:15pm, found easy meter parking a block away on Van Ness, walked in, no line, in and out in a matter of minutes. (Get your forms ahead of time on their website and have them all filled out when you arrive.)

Went on a Friday at 1pm and took me 15-30 minutes to get a birth certificate once you have your application which they have on site. You just walk in and get on line to get to a window clerk to show them your ID, the application, and $25 to be paid by card or other methods. Took longer to find parking but easiest way is to park at civic center garage and pay max $6/hour and walk 5 mins to the office. Overall, fast and efficient process if you’re looking to go and get a birth certificate for your newborn!

I came here for my boy birth certificate. Just walked in, no line. You should fill out the white form for birth and yellow one for death before approaching the line or window. Nice and helpful staffs. Easy and quick process.
