Wendy answered my call and she was an absolute delight to work with. She assisted me with answering my questions and then proceeded a document request for me. She was efficient and extremely knowledgeable. Thanks Wendy for a great experience.

One could not ask for a better bunch of folks. Informative at every step. Which was much-needed. This was only the second time to visit the courthouse in Sébastien County. Like my home county it is a wonderful time capsule of history as history goes. I would visit just to look at wall and glass case displays. Geek out on the courthouse, as if anyone will take this one serious. Even though you should definitely go.

Staff in this office have always been very helpful and cordial. This is where you will go to get your marriage license and returned to once it is completed and signed by your officiant. I serve as an Officiant for "Alternative Marriages" however, this office will provide you with a one-page listing of many different Officiants who serve in the Sebastian County area, since there's no longer a Judge or Justice of the Peace that marries couples in Fort Smith. You choose who is best for your particular marriage needs. This office is also responsible for keeping records of land deeds and such. They will usually do their best to help with whatever your needs are.

Fort Smith is one of two county seats for Sebastian County; Greenwood is also a county seat and has its own courthouse. Designed by Bassham And Wheeler, the Fort Smith courthouse was built in 1937. The building also originally served as Fort Smith City Hall, but city offices have relocated to another building. The Sebastian County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This large art deco building was built in 1937 during the Works Progress Administration and is quite richly decorated. The lobby and courthouse spaces have marble walls and terrazzo marble floors. You'll be able to spot the ornamental moldings around the interior doorways. It is six stories tall and you can't miss the Art Deco stylings. Sebastian county has two seats of justice, this one and another that was build in Greenwood in 1861. The county was named for US Senator William K. Sebastian who served from 1849 to 1861. This building initially also served as City Hall for ort Smith but the city offices have been moved to a new building on Garrison Avenue. The building was secured when I was here on a weekend but it's easy enough to walk the grounds and stick your nose against the glass at the entrances. And the street parking is free thanks to the City of Fort Smith.
