Not happy. Went to make payment on a fine at 4:15pm on Thursday and the court was closed. When I called the court phone number the recording said they close at 4pm. Nowhere on the municipal court website does it say when the payment window is open. My payment needs to be made in person too. I don't have the option to pay online. Disappointed.

South Brunswick Municipal Court: Just a concerning and disappointing experience. Be sure to take all your notes in case you have to file a complaint against them and/or cross-check their statements (they have misstated information). They are quite a bit disorganized and even rude and unprofessional at times per my experiences. I felt like they wanted my money, not the truth or a fair process with regard to unsubstantiated traffic ticket claims.

Pros: Police are respectful and polite, even when handing out tickets. The cop who pulled me over even gave me a website I could renew my registration on so my car would not get impounded. Cons: The website given for registration only works with a renewal form from the DMV (which I didn't have, and not everyone does). Court is during regular business hours and no late hours seem to be available, so you need to miss work if you want to challenge a ticket of you work 9-5. Even though the municipal court voice mail specifies that they are open Monday through Friday, they do not pick up the phones on Tuesday or Thursday (nothing mentioned in the recording about this) . You cannot leave a message either. Its very difficult to get in touch with anyone.

South Brunswick is a ticket mill. They make you appear regardless of your plea and you are put in a room jammed with 50 people and this is not just a once a week court. When I was there a lot of them were not native English speakers who were caught talking on their phones. The prosecutor was a tool. Technically, I shouldn't have gotten the ticket and he knew it but he started making excuses and I could see nobody was pleading not guilty so I paid the extra $250 to get the charge changed to unsafe driving but zero points. The judge, who is in love with himself, is no better than the prosecutor. You would think this guy was on the supreme court with his attitude. So I wasted 3 hours and paid $430 for an offense I really wasn't guilty of in a town in central Jersey that I try to avoid.

Their officers set up on Route One and pull over just about everyone once a week, early in the morning. I’ve seen as many as six patrol vehicles stopping people all at once. Eventually, I got pulled over too. The officer was professional and respectful, I ended up with a $100 ticket. After taking a plea deal, that fine somehow jumped to $400. That’s a $300 increase — for what, exactly? I hope they enjoyed taking the food off my kids’ plates. This kind of upcharge feels less like justice and more like legalized extortion. It’s hard to see how this helps anyone besides the court’s bottom line.
