I am not from here, but I decided to get my marriage license down here because this is where I reside for now. That was one of the biggest mistakes of my life! I got the license back to them after my ceremony on the 1st of August, once I turned the signed documents back in , the lady that’s over the marriages told me that I was good to go being that I needed to use the license for military purposes. Once my husband made it to his base he tried using the marriage license but it was missing a important part of the form which was the state file number which is the proof that it’s registered with the state of Louisiana. Ms. Dorothy Labrie failed to inform us that we needed a state file number for the license and marriage to be certified, so we’re thinking we’re in the clear, whole time we were missing a very important piece of information. Once I was told that the license wasn’t the certified copy I had to go back up there & my problem still wasn’t resolved not only did she never send my license to the state, she failed to inform that she never sent it to the state making me think the state was the problem when it was actually her. If you’re reading this and thinking about getting married in the state of Opelousas at this court house PLEASE DON’T! Very unprofessional for me to have to call other cities for information they should know themselves.

Opelousas, LA. They love their veterans here and the Rotary Club has decorated the grounds of this courthouse with beautiful flowers, murals, statues, and artwork painted on cellos by local artists. Get a cup of coffee from Java Square across the street and sit on a bench here for a pleasant time of people watching. You might even see a crazy tourist like me lol. There is a 300-year-old tree across the street planted in honor of Jim Bowie. My husband is a veteran and he liked this town.

Went to get a new birth certificate, had the forms outside the office at a nice table with pens ready to go. Once I filled the paper out and brought it inside the office I was walking out with my birth certificate within 10 minutes or so. Surprisingly smooth.
