I had to pay some taxes at City Hall. They have one in person window open even during COVID-19. The Tax Office is on the first floor via the handicapped ramp on the side of Town Hall. They had good social distancing guidelines set up to keep people separated. The clerk was very nice, and things were taken care of in a few minutes time. If you prefer, they have an outside drop box for payments as well. UPDATE: Things are pretty much the same post Covid. The poor people that work for the tax collector get a good number of rude, uncooperative customers. No one wants to pay taxes. But unfortunately there is no escape from them. But, in any case. Taking it out on the employees there isn't going to help. I've always been treated respectfully with a smile. So I guess you just grin and get it over with. :))

Moving the Litchfield District County Courthouse to Torrington in latter 2017 from the town of Litchfield, where the former Litchfield County Courthouse stood since 1888, resulted in mixed feelings among district residents at the time. History buffs loved the age old cases brought before Judges here, as well as their oil paintings on the wall. Understandable. The move to Torrington, however, has put a larger more modern facility in its place which works smoothly, and perhaps in its own 125 plus years, will have a history of its own to share.
