Not a speed trap. This is a cute, adorable town with a speed limit of 25 due to the businesses and homes and an elementary school one block away from the highway. Don't forget people and pets live here. Signs are posted clearly. :)

I'm related to a number of officers in the California highway patrol, so as someone who typically defends officers, I am ashamed of the conduct if this department. My family has had a terrible experience with this sheriff's office. The officer that they interacted with, Officer Lindsay, and the prosecutor John Olson, have been dishonest and unnecessarily aggressive as we worked through the process of fighting a harmless ticket. Additionally, this department is hiding the one star reviews so they can use personal and private information to attack and intimidate anyone leaving one star reviews (that use of information violates several privacy laws). I am shocked at the level of unprofessionalism that this Sheriff's county has displayed.

Had our boat die on us yesterday (7-11-19) near North Shore of bear lake and we were fortunate enough to have someone on a wave runner try and tow us there. On the way we saw the Sheriffs boat helping someone else and he said he could help us out as soon as he was done helping them. Long story short he got us and the boat all the way back to the east bench or the Idaho state park campground and did so on his day off. Just wanted to give a great big thank you for taking such great care of us and for being so friendly and courteous, we hope you stay safe out there!

The Sheriff department in this area has some bad problems with grandstanding, bullying, and misuse of authority. My family had a horrible experience with Officer Lindsay of this department. Complaints were lodged and no effort has been made to correct the problem, in fact, even worse, Mr. Olson of Bear Lake County Sheriff's department actually mocked our concerns publicly with his Facebook account, and after six months of effort, the complaint is still not resolved. Our experience with Mr. Olson and officer Lindsay show a systemic lack of civility, professionalism, and respect for citizens they are supposed to be serving. I love and support our public servants and officers of the peace, but the law is to protect and serve, not bully or harass.

Not only is this town and subsequent towns in the same county a collection of speed traps, but they give a ridiculously short amount of time to either gather together a legal defense team or pay the fine - fewer than two weeks to respond. The officer claimed we were going a certain amount over the speed limit, but I checked the speedometer from the backseat - we were only going five over the speed limit, and we were following traffic ahead of us from a safe distance. I suspect the two friendly reviewers to have family or friends in the sheriff's department. To the family traveling abroad - find a different county to travel through. Do not give these people your money.
