I needed someone in a public health role to care. I needed someone to see the mold, the flooding, the mental health collapse, and act. I needed what the word “health department” promises. Instead, I found silence. I reported severe mold exposure and water/ flooding damage in my home. Despite providing photos, test results, and medical documentation, I received no help. In fact, what I received was the very opposite. The town turned its back on me, tank attempted to silence and gaslight me. Health hazards that affect breathing, mood, stability — these stay under the radar. Meanwhile, the county is sitting on data that screams crisis: Highest suicide rate in Pennsylvania. Poverty well above state average. Kids self-harming. Months when people cannot function because their home or their environment is doing them harm. This is not just neglect. It’s a betrayal of what public health means. I’m posting this so others reading will know: Columbia County Health Department may not protect you. But we deserve protection. We deserve transparency. We deserve action. We deserve to be healthy and thrive. It is time for this county to DO BETTER. I will not stay quiet about this. People are needlessly suffering.
