We go to the Erath County Courthouse to vote. We vote in every election! You must vote in EVERY election: city and county bond issues, general elections, primary elections, school board and school bond issues, ALL elections! The "small" elections are what make the choices for the general election. It is so discouraging to find a worthy city bond election for a new library and community center that would serve kids, seniors, and all citizens failed by 65 votes because only 3%, THREE PERCENT, of the population actually voted. Or state leaders are elected by 7%, SEVEN PERCENT, of the voting population as in 2014!! You MUST VOTE in EVERY election! The building has a ramp to be handicapped accessible, however the clerk's office brings the voting machine outside so I can remain in the car to vote. The building was built well before wheelchair handicapped accessibility was ever considered. My husband has been inside the courthouse, but I have not because of my wheelchair. Modern annex buildings nearby are far more wheelchair handicapped accessible. The building is an historic landmark with beautiful stone facade and a clock tower that chimes on the quarter hour. A statue of Moo-La, a milk cow, is in front of the building marking the impact and importance of the milk production industry in Erath County. It's worth visiting on an historic tour. Festivals, car shows, farmer's market, and other community events are held in the parking lot and nearby. Historic brick streets surround the building and nearby blocks. Many shops and restaurants surround the building.

11.18.2025. A Nice collection of historical markers can be found around the courthouse and the Stephenville's city square.
