I have been on hold for over an hour as of noon on a Tuesday. Having spent my career in customer service, I recognize that such an extensive wait time would be considered unacceptable—and potentially grounds for termination—in most professional environments. I was particularly surprised to learn that a Bachelor’s degree is required for customer service roles at the North Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS). Given the critical need for timely assistance, this standard seems unnecessarily restrictive. There are many capable individuals actively seeking employment who possess the skills necessary to answer calls and direct them efficiently. Hiring from this available workforce would not only provide valuable public-sector jobs with government benefits, but it would also greatly improve service delivery. Reducing wait times and streamlining call routing would help ensure that constituents can access the services they are entitled to—services funded by taxpayer dollars. Ultimately, this would minimize the risk of eligible individuals being inadvertently denied the support they need.

I was served very quickly when I got there despite the place being packed and the staff were courteous, though not overly enthusiastic. The facility was not the cleanest and I saw some pieces of paper strewn out on the floor. It was a decent government office overall and I have no complaints.

These are the most rude disrespectful people I’ve ever seen in my life. How are you supposed to help people and work for the public but can’t ever assist? I wouldn’t want my dog to work with these incompetent inconsiderate species we call humans. Being on hold for 2 hours just to be hung up on is insane. Is there a corporate number we can call because this establishment needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

This one star is for the 3 ladies that was pleasant and kind in helping me! My God this place NEEDS AN OVERHAUL on STAFF! The amount of rudeness in there is unbelievable! That food stamp worker sitting at window 10 looking like a man needs to be FIRED! The woman who was supposed to call me back to help me with transportation needs to be fired! My caseworker never called me to introduce herself to me! Only person who calls me back is the Medicaid worker I’ve spoken to! There’s people in there that don’t like helping people who needs help! I’m being kind as I can be in this review because I could put all there names up here but I won’t do them the way they’ve done or doing me wrong! I’ve never received such disrespect from Wake County or Durham County Social Services! They actually help their clients and if they miss your call, they’ll call you back! OMG I’ve called too many times to have no one pick up the phone, today I’ve called twice to be on hold an hour and no one picks up the phone! I know they’ve been overloaded and overworked but GUILFORD COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES is a disgrace to us who need help! I could understand if I went in there or spoke on the phone to them rude and disrespectful, then maybe I would deserve their disrespect! These people given a 5 star rating is lying! They’re most likely related or a friend of someone who works there, because these are the WORST People I’ve come to encounter since I’ve been disabled and having to deal with social services! I’ve not been rude to anyone there in person or on the phone! I’ve got disabilities and had a two major surgeries last year and just had a total shoulder replacement surgery this month and I’m just getting the run around! SMH! All these negative comments I read before I went there in person and I was thinking y’all was exaggerating but now that I’ve had to deal with them in person and on the phone I agree 100% with everybody else negative comments about this place! I’m going have to move back to what I’m accustomed to excellent customer service! If I could post my screenshots of my calls there I would but I see someone took that option off! I would blast them on that! Just My Goodness this is a terrible place!!!

. They do the bare minimum to try to help you ; which sucks because you would think that they would try to help considering the position they have! They mismanage your paperwork And act as if you didn’t turn your paperwork in, but in all actuality, they lost it. You’re never able to talk to your CaseWorker who actually manages your case. There’s a chance 1 out of 10 you actually get Someone at the window who can actually assist you. The workers walk around in the back with bedroom shoes on and blankets as it their in the back sleeping. Their useless. I’d give their pathetic work ethic a -100 if I could.
