Lived in Cleburne years ago and just visited to see how city had changed. Like other cities, it's growing fast. Toured the courthouse and was pleased with the way it has been preserved and modernized. Visited the office of old friend, County Judge Roger Harmon. We caught up later by phone. Nice visit. Really enjoyed visiting with Darlene West, administrator of Johnson County Historical Museum. Large room dedicated to an impressive amount of information about the county and cities. A nice day trip to see and visit with Darlene. She has a lot of history to tell also. Check out the mural, by Stylle Reed, on the old bus station. History of Central Texas Bus Lines. Enjoy your trip.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon so we didn't go inside. The building is very nice outside. It has similar features to other Texas courthouses, but it's still very unique. At the center of the building is a tall clock tower. There are several memorials all around the property.

Yes, the museum is in the real courthouse. By far the best museum in Cleburne TX and its free! Seeing the courthouse was really interesting while the museum was a small room on the first floor room 139. A very nice and knowledgeable docent that helped set up the museum was availableto show us around and provide context. I had a great time and its near the RR & Layland museums. Best was the story of the Republic of Texas money and how it was found in the courthouse. The docent will share many stories. 100% recommended. You get to see the great old building and then items and pictures about Cleburne, the area and Johnson County. I loved the old radiators the left in, stained glass, marble walls, and beautiful architecture touches from the past.
