visited to obtain my voter registration card and brought my daughter. She is mixed. It was blatantly obvious the clerk working did not appreciate my daughter being of color as she kept giving her dirty looks. I had even gone out of my way to thank her for her services and she totally ignored me. This behavior is completely unacceptable especially displayed by a government official.

I live out of state and wanted to get married in my home state of MI. Paid $150 to have the license expedited since we couldn’t be there until the day before we got married. A month later I tried to purchase our certificate online and couldn’t see it so called and they assured me it was there so just purchase it. Weeks later nothing in the mail so tried to purchase it again and a few days later got a letter that said “after an thorough search they don’t have any record of our marriage”. So I called again to see if there was anything I could do and they said “oh we show it right here, we’ll mail it out today”. So they really did have a record all along, good thing I called to double check. No sorry or anything. Now I finally have the certificate and just found out I can’t apply for new SS card because county clerk put the wrong dates on the certificate. What a nightmare.

The staff and public servants who work on all the floors are friendly for the most part. The female with long blonde hair who sits at the front desk of the county clerks office on floor three is extremely lazy in my opinion. Last time I was here inquiring about how to fix the deed to my property that they screwed up, she copped an attitude and gave me vague instructions and information on moving forward and undoing their mistake. I was hoping to see Mary because she is the most kind hearted and empathetic employee who will go above and beyond to help you with whatever you may need. She will explain everything in full and even write information down that will help make your transaction go as smooth as possible. The building itself is easy to find and hard to miss. It is in incredible condition considering how old it is. The clock that sits up top is absolutely stunning and still works to this day. The interior of this building is beautiful and still has many of the features and architectural materials it was originally built with. Fun Fact - it use to serve as the court house from way back in the day. There is free street parking offered directly outside this historical building. If you’re driving an electric vehicle, they offer two charging stations outside on the street parking in the first two spots.

I had my first experience with the County Clerks Office when filing a FOIA request. From the start, the staff with the public records department were friendly, helpful and informative. I had the process explained to me, and when I got home they made me an account for the online FOIA portal. In the end, I received all records I requested in a timely manner. This is the level of transparency all local municipalities should strive for.
