Stunningly unhelpful My encounter with them borders on Kafka-esque. In order to get a birth certificate (from 1912) for a history project, I was told by the clerk that she would have to call the state to verify what is said on the state's website, because she can't just take someone's word for it. I asked, ok, are you going to call? She said, No, we have clients here. I said, well should I send in an application? She said, No, because we would have to check with the state. I asked, I am really just trying to find out how I can get you to check with the state so I could send in my application. She said she couldn't talk because she had people waiting in line and hung up before I could ask to speak to someone else. She had a chronic inability to understand or even listen. Every sentence seemed to begin with "What I am trying to tell you ..." They should just call it a "records office" because there is nothing "vital" about it.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. I sent them a money order, tracked it; and they claim they never received it. I now understand the meaning of “going postal.” I dare sending another money order, as it is likely this will be lost also. I can understand why New Jersey ranks very low in some ratings. But I fail to understand why property taxes are so high. The taxes are unlikely to be going to competent civil servants. Thank you

Worst staff ever. Those people have no communication skills and are the rudest people I've ever met. They're bitter and you cant tell them they did something wrong because they yell right back. I've called multiple times in my life and every single time they answer rude and annoyed. The lady that receives the mail is the worst. Doesn't let you talk and honestly I think she has anger issues. Her coworkers are just as same to her. Speaks so low in the phone but gives a horrible attitude. They really do hire whoever they want there. Mainly everyone there has anger issues and no patience.

I live in Florida and was having so much trouble with Vital Chek to get the long version of my birth certificate. I would call them and wait on the phone for at least an hour. I called The City of Plainfield Vital Statistics office and Daisy was so extremely helpful. I sent the required paperwork directly to her and within a few weeks I had my birth certificate. I called the office at least 5 times and Daisy was always pleasant and helpful. Thank you, Daisy, for all your help!

Hate to say this but you get the quality of the surroundings. I went to Vital Statistics in Somerville (wish they could help me!) they were over the top friendly and so willing to help but I was born in Plainfield. So I try this Vital Statistics. Half hearted help telling me what to do! Somerville was going to do it for me because that's the job! Plainfield if you're reading this, do better. You already have a stigma, do better.
