I went to deliver a marriage certificate for my first wedding as an officiant. In true government employee fashion, this lady sucked. Mea culpa, I did make an assumption that I should file the certificate in the same county where the couple got married. Totally my fault and I will happily own my blunder. It’s the fashion in which this was handled that draws my ire and earns them a single star review. Advice to little miss black shirt, black curls, with the double nose piercings that looked like they were on the verge of infection: “that isn’t even our county” is a crappy way of responding to this situation. This process can be confusing for first timers. Might I suggest something more akin to: “oops! Sorry, but we can’t process this. Marriage certificates should be taken to the county where the couple obtained their license. Not the county in which they were married.” Had that been the response, I would have face-palmed and apologized for wasting her time. But I guess our county governments can only attract clock-in clock-out bots with no aspirations of being good at their jobs.
