I called to see if my cousin’s death certificate was available to pick up. The person who answered the phone rudely told me that I can’t get my cousin’s death certificate because I am “not blood related.” What she should have said is that I am not next of kin and therefore ineligible to request an authorized copy. I told her that I was just interested in requesting the informational copy which does not require any association with the deceased. She backtracked at that point and said she didn’t want people to have to do extra work? My feelings were hurt being told that I am not blood related to my younger cousin who just died, not to mention I didn’t even ask her if I could get a copy, just if it was available. I’m glad it was me calling and not my bereaved aunt.

Location: I get confused every time I go! It's not with the other government offices; it's on the corner of Santa Rosa and Monterey, next to the old movie theater. Once you find the right building though, the room is immediately on your left through the main doors. Tip: Paperwork can be filled out online, but you have to pay on-site. Or you can just show up and use the computers there to do the paperwork. Experience: When my fiancé and I went to get our marriage license, something went wrong with the payment (the online process for that is very confusing) and we had to re-fill out the paperwork when we got there. But when I went back to get the certificate, it went smoothly and perfectly and I was in and out in 10 minutes.

I was given 48 hours to turn in paperwork at noon on Friday. Yet, they are closed on the weekend. I showed up at 8 am like their hours say open for Monday thinking I was already late. The window doesn’t open till 8:30. I had my original paperwork, 2 copies as the form says is required, and a toddler. Trying to kill 30 minutes in the waiting room isn’t the easiest thing for a 23 month old! Then, they told me they only needed the original and the copies weren’t necessary. I had to sign an electronic consent form or show up with a prepaid postal envelope in order to get a copy. They can’t even follow their own rules but yet they judge everyone else.

5 stars for a county government agency? I must be nuts! No. At least I don't think so Anyhow, almost everything you need to at the San Luis Obispo County Office of the Clerk-Recorder can be done online using the self service section of their website. What I mean is if a PDF will cover what you need, bam! you are done son! However, I needed some highly technical mumbo jumbo that needed to be all certified, notaterized and paper stamperized so after I requested the aforementioned documentations, I was told to come in down and pick them up. I was not overly joyed with the thought of spending half a day waiting to pay my fee and get some certified, notaterized and paper stamperized documentations. At first, I thought they were replaced by a tiny library that might be closed. I went in and still no one was there for business like me. I was immediately assisted and informed the State of California was getting involved. I was asked to take a seat and not more than 3 minutes passed and I was told my certified, notaterized and paper stamperized documentations were ready. I paid the fees, which were in reality, not expensive and received my certified, notaterized and paper stamperized documentations in a handy dandy clear plastic envelope. The total time I spent inside was about 7 minutes, which is absolutely fantastic and both of the office staffers were very polite and professional.

Went there a few weeks ago to get marriage license. The place was empty. Guess everyone else was getting a divorce. LOL just kidding. The receptionist was amazing. Me and the Mrs. were out of there in a flash. I'm sure they do all types of things which make it very easy for whomever goes there and for whatever reason as well. Very very happy and satisfied.
