I recently lost my full time job, therefore my insurance. I’m a natural born female, which means routine checks for cervical cancer. I called the Health Department and they informed me I could come there, for free, for my annual checkups and birth control. I expected it to be a dump and for all the people to be rude, because I’ve never personally been to the health department and had heard horror stories of the one in Jefferson County (where I’m originally from). I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and updated the health department actually was. It was actually nicer than my primary care doctor’s office, if I’m being 100% honest. Also, everyone was so very nice. From the lady at the front desk, to the triage nurse, to the doctor herself. HIGHLY recommend them to any female looking for quality female healthcare without insurance.

I had an appointment to get my son religious exemption from his vaccines today. I left there OVERJOYED with my experience. The staff were ALL so kind, friendly, and warm. I was there for less than an hour, with very little wait time. I called the JEFFERSON county health department for a solid month and left 5 voicemails- no response. They clearly do not do there job there, but Shelby Co. staff went above and beyond. Shoutout to Ann for being so kind and thorough. What an exceptional place. If it were not for the Shelby Co. Health Dpt, Birmingham residents would not have a way to get religious exemptions. God bless Shelby Co. Health Dpt!

Birth Certificate Office closes at 4 and is not advertised as that. 30 minutes before they close is reasonable but an hour? People need to be better and have sympathy for people who work or don't want that document in the mail.
