I wish I had listened to the advice to steer clear of Clay Center, KS, after hearing the legend about a group of 15 tourists disappearing here in 1971 to the more recent swaths of completely abandoned neighborhoods that people seemingly left without explanation. I visited the old town hall and found a peculiar item in the basement, which was a dusty old shoebox that was all but empty, save for a polaroid picture of a man and a VHS tape, which I cannot play because I do not own a VCR. Shortly after finding that, I had a call from someone at Clay County Health Department and they said they had some urgent information for me. When I went to meet with them at the offices here the secretary told me that there was nobody by that name working here. I left confused, but on my way out I noticed a man who looked EXACTLY like the man in the polaroid picture. He gave me a slight nod and I kept walking but when it finally hit me I turned to look back at him he was gone. I've included a picture of the man that was AI (computer) generated in an attempt to capture what he looked like. I will not return to Clay Center, KS anytime soon. Nevertheless, I am giving this place 5 stars for the secretary's friendliness and the vending machine, which still happens to stock RC Cola.
