We’ve been taking our son here since we moved a few years ago, and while the dentist is kind and patient, the experience continues to be overshadowed by one dental assistant’s attitude. Our son has dealt with dental issues since his first tooth came in, and after years of research, we made an informed decision not to use fluoride. Fluoride is a known neurotoxin, with studies linking overexposure to developmental and cognitive effects in children. That’s not something we’re willing to gamble with, especially for a growing mind. What’s disappointing is the lack of respect for that choice. Each visit, the assistant makes side comments to the dentist like “no fluoride again,” and interrogates us about diet and hygiene, implying that our son’s dental history is because of this one decision. It’s frustrating when medical professionals ignore emerging research and cling to an outdated belief that fluoride is some miracle cure, when in reality, it’s a toxin that accumulates in the body and affects far more than teeth. We genuinely appreciate the clinic’s effort and the dentist’s gentle approach, but I’d encourage the staff to educate themselves beyond conventional talking points and show respect for parents who prioritize whole-body health, not just quick fixes.
