AVOID if you can! ! Rude, unhelpful, Registrar Kathy Taylor hollered out things from her office instead of coming out, introducing herself and assisting us, which may have helped to diffuse the situation. Every time I called, they were short and just plain rude on the phone with me and basically hung up on me without even a "thank you for calling" or "goodbye." It took contacting the Assistant County Manager before we got a straight answer on how we could get a delayed marriage license because ours was apparently lost in the mail, though Ms. Taylor came straight out and accused our minister of not mailing it. God forbid you get married out of the county, state or county as we were told to go check the post office the minister mailed it from and see if it was actually mailed. Then the minister calls me yesterday to let me know it was returned as "undeliverable" to him WITH THE CORRECT ADDRESS THAT IS ON THE WEBSITE on the envelope!!! They kept telling us, wait until Friday, then it was wait until next week maybe it will come in then. You only have 30 days after getting married to get your work benefits adjusted, and we were quickly approaching 30 days. We couldn't wait any longer. Ms. Taylor refused to tell us what we needed to do to get a delayed certificate. The Assistant Manager emailed us a page with a list of 3 options, to which Ms Taylor told us "she should not have emailed that to you." After filling out the affidavits and having them notarized at our bank so as to not inconvenience their office any more than we had to, we were then told we had to meet 2 of the 3 options, which is NOT what it says in the book. So anyway, then we had to take an additional day off of work to drive 3 hours to get our minister to sign a 2nd copy of the license. The affidavits were so generic they crossed out Durham county to handwrite, yes handwrite, Granville on the top. They made sure they handwrote "DELAYED" across the top of our license too so it looks really unprofessional. Even when I called back today to verify the address online was correct and ask if they needed the originals, I was told "no, you were issued a delayed certificate, we don't need anything else." Then she hung up on me. No goodbye or thank you, just hung up on me. I pray you get better customer service and they are more polite to you then were us, but if you have the opportunity, go anywhere else. They clearly should not be in customer service and/or they hate their jobs and need to find other employment.
