I had a great experience today at the health department. They did their absolute best to work with me. I went to receive some vaccines for travel. Some important things to know are that you need to make an appointment for the vaccines (maybe not all of them? But it seems most), they do not carry every vaccine (the one I heard was Cholera, though they did carry a yellow fever vaccine while the other clinic didn't), and they do not do prescriptions (probably due to the amount of patients they receive. I was helped by the front desk lady named Barbara twice actually. I'm not sure if she realized but I went to the health department a day before and she sent me in the direction of UMMC because I was asking for some anti-malaria pills. Despite not being affiliated with UMMC this was the correct place for me. I came back today to price the recommended vaccines and get the yellow fever vaccine, which ummc did not have. I can't say enough how much of a help Barbara was in insuring my health for my upcoming travel. She also helped me both times with a great attitude and smile, despite working with flustered and frustrated customers. Once I got into the office to receive my shot, it was over and I was walking back out only 15 minutes later.

0 stars if I could. The lady at the desk when you first walk in is rude and just cuts you off, speaks over you. When i called at 10:40 she cold transfered me to the back, the guy said to just come in, and i get there at 11:40 and everyone in the back in gone to lunch, No one said over the phone they had lunch for over an hour, and or even let me know, so now I'm stuck WAITING with a 3 year old.

Zero stars. Your appointment time is an illusion meant to help you cope with the first hour of waiting. Give in to despair before you get there. It’s much less painful that way. Life is better when you manage expectation. Plan to be there for 3 hours.

If i could give 0 stars i would. I called last week and was told i could walk in on Monday 8-10. I came in on Monday 25th of September and was told they were doing appointments only by the same guy that said i could just walkin. What i waste of time and energy.

My overall experience was pretty good. I was seen for an outpatient procedure and from check in to discharge my experience was swell. I was then placed into the care of Mrs. Mary Brooke. She's was well knowledgeable of her work. She made me feel so comfortable and eased my nerves before, during, as well as after, my procedure. Dr. Ellison was a gem. He was in and out... Made the process very smooth. Overall visit went pretty good.
