My experience today was less than stellar. To start, I called before going. There was no mention of the entire office shutting down for lunch. I didn't know places of business continued doing this. Usually one will go, while the others cover, so business continues - but that's too efficient - lets shut it down completely so citizens will have to waste time waiting on them!!! Then, you wait in line only to be told you must go to a computer room to complete your request. The manner in which the questions are posed leave it to interpretation, not clear at all; which led to the birth certificate I requested for someone else, being printed for myself, by the Hispanic employee. Fortunately, I realized it before getting on the elevator. However, she left her workspace, so a black woman (Washington) assisted me. I explained to her the error. She advised me to complete the paper form instead of returning to the computer. I asked her a question to get clarity so the same error wouldn't be repeated. She replied with a sarcastic response. smh......then, to top it all off, I had to pay for the incorrect certificate and the correct certificate......HORRIBLE experience!!!!

I came in about 25 minutes before close just to ask what documents I needed to provide to receive my birth certificate. I was met with kindness from the get go. Security, was super helpful and friendly and so was the man and woman I spoke to. I came out with my birth certificate in about a couple of minutes

My recent experience at the Durham Registration of Deeds was quite mixed, largely due to the unprofessional behavior of a staff member named Ms. Washington. I went there to obtain a marriage license and was initially assisted by Ms. Washington. Unfortunately, she was extremely rude and unpleasant, giving the clear impression that she didn't want to help us. We were missing a form, and upon returning with it, we were helped by another staff member who was pleasant and helpful, providing a much better experience. After getting married, we returned to get the marriage certificate and encountered Ms. Washington again. Her behavior was, unfortunately, consistent with our previous interaction—rude and visibly unhappy. She seemed disinterested in her job, which was quite evident and even caught my husband's attention, who usually doesn't notice such things. When we mentioned that the judge had told us we could obtain the certificate on Monday for a name change, she was notably unhappy and dismissive. Ms. Washington's attitude and lack of professionalism are concerning for a customer service role. If she is unhappy with her job, it might be best for her and the office's clients if she considered a different position. Overall, while other staff members were courteous and helpful, Ms. Washington's unpleasant demeanor overshadowed the experience. If you visit the Durham Registration of Deeds, be aware of the potential for an unfriendly encounter, especially with the lady to the far left.
