Today I went into the register of deeds office to retrieve a copy of my child’s birth certificate ( around 1:40 pm). I was excited because this is my first child and it took me 5 years to conceive so I was in a great mood. The first lady to the right where you enter the office was great very personable, informative, and let me know what I needed to fill out in order to get what I came for. She told me to fill out the top of the form and see Derrick across from the mirror . When she yelled out “Derrick, can you help her?”, there was one guy there but he didn’t look up or engage, so I figured maybe the mirror was on the other side. It was my first time there so I don’t know the layout and having a newborn ( lack of sleep) I could not find the mirror . I passed the mirror and Derick looked at me like I was mindless and said rudely “where are you going ?” . I replied back “ oh I’m sorry I didn’t hear her correctly lack of sleep newborn stage starting to get to me”. He just looked at me and asked if I filled out the form. Told him I did . He looked at it and said “ No you didn’t , you didn’t fill out these bottom parts . Fill it out and come back .” So I came back and gave him the paperwork and he says one word ID. I give it to him and he starts the process and while he’s printing it out he looks at me and says CARD . So I look down and make the payment . He then comes over with the birth certificate and says sign this receipt . I sign the receipt and he gives me my things . No thank you, have a nice day , not anything. I encounter a lot of people throughout the day and I have never met a person like Derick who was so loathsome, agitated , depressing , arrogant , and rude . You can clearly tell he hates his job and takes it out on every person he comes across . He acts as if I should know every aspect of what to do when he's been working there for years (I assume )and I have only been there for 5 minutes . Please talk to your staff about customer service because they might run into someone not as patient as me and it might cause an altercation in your office .

My husband and I arrived on a time crunch and the lady took us in immediately with a warm smile and helped us! She had a very pleasant and warm personality. We appreciated her quick help to get us both copies of our birth certificates. I made it back to work in plenty of time! Thank you for the amazing customer service we received.

Clerk of Court and Register of Deeds are a bit incompetent. The Estate section particularly lacked the knowhow on estates for those deceased beyond 2 years. It's clear that they know the basics, but they don't know how to approach niche requests. They claimed I needed to have heirs of the deceased open an estate to clear my property title, which was not the case AT ALL. The Register of Deeds (ROD) office had no idea what they were advising. They instructed us to get Heir Affidavits so that they could remove the old owner from our property, then once that was complete they wouldn't accept the documents? Both offices advised me to speak with a lawyer, which honestly was frustrating because this isn't rocket science, it's just real estate document filings and to be frank, doesn't require expertise. They sent me to the Clerk of Court whom were no help at all. An hour later, I decided I would try speaking with someone else at the ROD, and to my expectations, I was able to get my files recorded with Josh (THANK YOU!). So you get different results by speaking to different representatives (which is a serious flaw in their system). There needs to be cross training so that each office knows how to instruct people on correct processes and documentation. If I had relied on their incompetence, I would have wasted more time and lawyer fees to get something so simple done, but in reality, it took months and two rejections for the SAME document. It took persistence and a 3rd try to get it done, but ultimately I did.
