As a professional wedding officiant, I officiate over 100 weddings a year and I consistently run into issues with the Union County Register of Deeds office. About 20% of my couples get their marriage license from this county and many of them have had negative experiences with this deeds office. In the last year, the office has "misplaced" two of my couples' marriage licenses, causing unnecessary stress for me and the couples. In addition, they have made me resign my name and have asked multiple witnesses to come into the office and resign or reprint their names. I am meticulous about names/signatures on the license, and have had no other issues with any other county in NC with the hundreds of weddings I've officiated in the last two decades. I now discourage my couples from getting their marriage license at this office even if it's the most convenient register of deeds location for them. I send them to Mecklenburg, Gaston, or Cabarrus. The people at the front security desk are also consistently rude and condescending. Getting a marriage license should be a joy and pleasurable experience for couples, but unfortunately that's not the case with the Union County Register of Deeds office.

The security "guard" at the front desk was very brusk and rude. AND he was in an open argument with someone at the desk and not paying attention to those of us needing to get into the deeds office. Very unprofessional.

Very unprofessional place. All the employees are disrespectful and rude. Don’t waste your time coming here. They don’t know how to do their jobs properly and can’t even bother to let people know that they’re closing early.

I came to do my daughter passport, the lady with short blond hair started yelling at me why the security guy let me in, that they take people only till 12, that is no reason for me to wait, I told her to don’t worry because it’s 11:45 and she said that I can wait but she knows for sure that it’s waste of time. An hour later I signed everything, paid service fee and leave now I’m waiting for passport to arrive. I give one star for another lady who checks all the papers, very nice and helpful, one star for the agent who took a picture and took the papers and one star for fast work.
