What a waste of time! I had no idea how some people can have zero common sense. Very unhelpful people there. I went to the vital records office for correction of a death certificate , for an error that was made by a typo from the doctor and funeral home. I got an appointment after waiting for 3 months , and it was complete waste of time. They wouldn,'t even help by comparing the available documentation I presented, which were more than enough to verify and make the correction. No wonder all the errors in the certificates that people complain all the time. NYCDOH please do something to oversee this! Please have some competent people with enough training how to solve problems , not to add more problems and frustrations to people .

Went in for an emergency birth certificate. Got in 10:02am, left 10:36am. You wait to go in the building located on 45 Lafayette, wait to go to the office, wait for a number, wait to use a computer to log in your information with the number they give you, pay your fee at the desk, get your certificate and go! Lillian is an absolute joy and wonderful person! I would recommend going as early as you can

Went today 5/11. Had appointment. They took me in before time, staff helped all people entering info on computers, got a number, waited for number to be called like in dmv, went to window and paid. Got my certificate. All staff friendly and helpful. Total process about 30 minutes. Was expecting the worst and it didn't happen....

It’s the worst Business conduction, I have ever experienced in this country, I will never recommend anyone to use this service. It’s a very important service so I don’t understand why they have so many incompetent people working there.!., my mother applied for her late Husband Death Certificate we mail the information from Georgia. It’s been almost a year and we haven’t received the death certificate. We requested for a change of address and was told to submit a proof of address, which we did we haven’t received any information about they receive the updated mailing address or anything we have been told since February that the order is at printing, I couldn’t believe that a certificate could take almost one year to complete in this modern system and time 2026 smh !.

I had to wait a few months to get an appointment there but once that day came, it was a very fast process. I went there for a birth certificate correction. I had to have my first name added to my birth certificate because they forgot to put it on there when I was born. I was able to get by my entire life with a birth certificate that had no first name on it because I had other identification but then when my birth certificate got destroyed in a hurricane, I was in a difficult position. I was a woman with no birth certificate and could not order a replacement online because the website does not let you search and order one without a first name. So I made an appointment to get my first name put on my birth certificate but had to show additional proof since I no longer had my original one. The whole process was fast as far as checking in, typing a couple of things into a computer monitor, getting a number and then waiting to be called. I was called up to the window in less than 5 minutes once I had my number. The clerk was wonderful and understood my situation and worked with me. She allowed me to show additional proof of identity and address in order to help me get my birth certificate corrected. It will take up to 90 days to arrive by mail but I am excited because once it arrives I can finally get married! 😃 I am so appreciative to the staff at the Vital Statistics Bureau because they were all so kind and helpful. The security guards at the front door were very friendly and the security guard in the room where you wait for your number to be called was super informative, helpful and just an all around sweetheart. The clerk was professional, polite, understanding, thorough and of course, friendly. If you plan to go there, the wait for the appointment may be long but at least you'll be seen and helped very fast on that day. I was in and out in about 30 minutes in total. It was an excellent experience.
